Montrose Economic Development Corporation Welcomes Travel Recon

MEDC has been working with Travel Recon since June 22, 2015 to assist them in establishing Montrose as the headquarters for their start-up company. In addition to providing our customized packet outlining tax incentives and employment data …… we also researched and secured housing for them. Travel Recon qualifies as an Advanced Industry through the State of Colorado Office of Economic Development. This means individuals who invest capitol in Travel Recon are eligible to apply for a 30% tax credit on the funds they invest. MEDC served as the liaison with the State of Colorado regarding both the qualification process for Travel Recon as well as assisting their investors.
MEDC and Montrose County collaborated to get broadband access to the Travel Recon’s Montrose location which was required to have the firm locate here. Montrose County Commissioners voted on August 12, 2015 to award $22,500 to MEDC to be used to acquire the necessary fiber optic infrastructure for Travel Recon.
Travel Recon was accepted into the Telluride Venture Accelerator program through the Telluride Foundation in February 2015. “Telluride Venture Accelerator is thrilled to have one of its accelerator graduates (Travel Recon) locate in the region,” said Thea Chase the accelerator’s Program Director. We appreciate the efforts of MEDC, Montrose County and the Montrose community and look forward to further collaboration in support of high-growth technology firms.”
Toby Houchens is a former Green Beret and founder of Travel Recon. The company provides technology based risk assessment and planning tools on the web for travelers and uses aggregated data and expert analysis to help travelers understand potential threats and provides security information. Travel Recon will start-up with 13 specialized jobs looking to employ qualified veterans if possible – non-veterans are also encourage to make application. Toby is committed to working with our veterans and giving them job opportunities. A formal open house and welcome event for the public will be held in the near future. Jobs will pay an average of $41,000 annually.
